Representative Mike Gallagher recently announced grants of more than $23 million to support various airports throughout northeast Wisconsin. These grants were made available through the CARES act and can be used to help offset operating costs and employee wages during the current health crisis. The CARES act made $10 billion available to the Federal Aviation Administration so they could distribute this assistance to airports of all sizes across the country. Green Bay’s Austin Straubel International will receive $7.9 million, and here in Door County the Cherryland Airport will receive $30,000, the Ephraim-Gibraltar airport will get $30,000, and the Washington Island airport will get $20,000. Gallagher commented that this funding through the CARES act provides local airports with an important lifeline in these challenging times.
