Thursday morning at 7:45, a call was made to the Sturgeon Bay Police concerning a car which had apparently driven straight into the Michigan Street roundabout on Highway 42/57 and jumped over the roundabout. A passerby witnessed the incident and made the call saying that the blue vehicle was then in the ditch while the female driver was standing outside the car talking on her cell phone. When a Sturgeon Bay officer arrived on the scene, however, the car was gone. It appeared the driver was headed southbound on the highway when it hit and jumped the roundabout. There was some property damage with sign posts hit and taken down and some vehicle parts were scattered about the scene, including a “Ford” emblem. Captain Dan Brinkman reports that by mid-afternoon they had found the vehicle and driver and she is doing fine. It seems there might have been some type of medical condition involved with the incident.
