Despite rumors to the contrary, progress on the Bayview Bridge and Highway 42/57 rehabilitation projects continues to be made and the work is pretty much on schedule. Not too long ago, a story surfaced that work on the Bayview Bridge was being hampered by the discovery of an eagles nest. That’s news to the crews working on the span. As a matter of fact, the bridge is expected to be open for the busy 4th of July holiday weekend. Most recently, word had it that the Highway 42/57 project was lagging behind its projected timetable and the work wouldn’t be completed until August. Again, that’s news to the people working on the project. As things stand now, the roadway, with its new roundabouts, should receive its stress test around the 4th of July. It should be pointed out that not all of the work on the busy highway will be finished by the end of June, but that work can be completed later in the year, after the busy summer tourism season.
