Body of Missing Boater Found Saturday Morning

The Door County Sheriff’s Department has announced that the body of a missing boater has been found in the waters of Green Bay in the Little Sturgeon area. The search began Friday night after the sheriff’s department was notified that a sailboat had washed ashore near Wood Lane & North Stevenson Pier Road. The Brussels-Union-Gardner used the department’s rescue boat to inspect the vessel which was about 50 feet offshore in 5 feet of water, but found the vessel unoccupied. It was discovered that the owner of the boat had been sailing Friday afternoon and at last word had been heading back toward the dock at Wave Pointe Marina. Units from BUG Fire, the Door County Sheriff’s Department, Sturgeon Bay Police, Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, and the US Coast Guard took part in the search. The US Coast Guard helicopter located the body at 9:30 Saturday morning in the water off of Bittersweet Road in the Town of Gardner, it was then recovered and identified.

*The name of the missing boater has not been released at this time. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
