If you were passing through Sturgeon Bay on Highway 42/57 Tuesday afternoon, you may have experienced a detour through the city due to a problem on the Bay View Bridge. At around 1:00PM, the bridge span was raised to allow the US Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay to pass through. When the bridge span was lowered, a malfunction occurred and the bridge required temporary closure to have the problem resolved. Local law enforcement directed traffic off the bridge and through Sturgeon Bay to cross either the Maple-Oregon Street or Michigan Street Bridge. The Bay View Bridge was functioning properly again in about 1 hour and highway traffic resumed over the bridge. Luckily, no further tall marine traffic approached during that time.
