Algoma Police Investigating Burglaries

The Algoma Police Department has released information on several burglaries they are investigating, the latest of which occurred Monday night at a residence in the 200 block of North 4th Street in the city. The homeowner, who was away for the day encountered the burglar in his home. He was described as a white male, with short hair and medium length facial hair, 5’8″ and 150 pounds. His clothing was described as a white winter jacket with plaid print and blue jeans. He apparently told the homeowner that he was looking for a warm place to stay away from the cold and left the residence. The homeowner then discovered that some of his property was gone through and some coins were taken from a cup.

The Algoma Police Department has had three reports of similar incidents in the last seven weeks. In most of these instances, the homes were left unsecured with doors unlocked. Those instances occurred in the 300 block of Lakeview Drive, the 400 block of Margaret Lynn Avenue and the 100 block of Margaret Lynn Avenue.

The Algoma Police want to remind everyone to secure their property when they are away from their homes and their vehicles when they are not using them.

The investigation into these burglaries continues and anyone with information is asked to call the Algoma Police Department at (920)487-3311.
