The Door County Facilities and Parks Department has announced that the Ahnapee Trail will be extended between Utah and Michigan Streets, along Highway 57. The project has been in the works for many years and it took a collaborative effort to bring it all together. The extension project is expected to begin on April 30th with substantial completion anticipated on June 15th. Three federal and state grants are helping to pay for the work, the state recreational trails act, the acquisition and development of local parks program, and federal non-traditional transportation funding. The construction management portion of the project is being supported fully by the Friends of the Door County Parks System, Incorporated. RC Excavating Management from Suamico is the prime contractor. The completion of the trail will provide a connection to the Highway 57/Michigan street roundabout.
