There were two fire calls in the Town of Nasewaupee Sunday. First, just after 9:30 am, a call came in for a grass fire near County Road “C”, just west of Idlewild Road. Southern Door Fire Chief Rich Olson says they learned the property owner had a burn permit for a fire the day before, but it was not fully extinguished and the fire rekindled………
Fire Chief Olson reports it was a rather small grass fire and was extinguished quickly yet thoroughly. Then, shortly before 5:00 pm, a call came in for a car fire on County Road “MM”, about a half-mile north of Highway 42. A 1972 Cadillac Eldorado convertible had its muffler dragging. This most likely caused a spark which started a fire on the vehicle’s underside. Fire Chief Olson reports his department sent 6 trucks and 20 firefighters to the scene. They blocked off that section of “MM” and extinguished the fire with approximately 1,000 gallons of water. There were no injuries, but the Cadillac was a total loss, and the entire response took just under 45 minutes.
