McHugh Leads Clippers at Sectionals

Max McHugh won two individual events and was a member of two winning relay teams for the Sturgeon Bay Co-op swim team at the WIAA Division 2 Sectional at Cedarburg on Saturday.  McHugh won the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke and has the top seed in both events at the State Meet.  McHugh joined Luke Bousley, Brock Aune and Evan Smith in the 200 Medley Relay while the 200 Freestyle Relay team also finished 1st and both teams have the top seed.  Brock Aune finished 2nd in the 100 breaststroke at sectionals and is seeded third at state and finished 3rd in the 100 yard freestyle and also qualified for the State Meet on Friday at the UW-Natitorium in Madison.

*McHugh posted a 22.69 breaststroke split in the 200 Medley Relay, and according to swimswam.com, is tied for the 2nd fastest split ever.  It ties the time of Peter John Stevens from the University of Tennessee and is second only to the time of Chuck Katis (22.64) at the 2015 NCAA Championship.

*Evan Smith with a 6th in the 200 freestyle/7th in 100 backstroke (personal best times)
*Will Albertson with an 8th place finish in the 100 breaststroke, also personal best in 100 freestyle
*Luke Bousley with a 9th place finish in 200 freestyle
*Ian Bartz- personal best times in 200 freestyle/100 freestyle
