The Sturgeon Bay football team dropped their season opener Saturday, losing to Roncalli 27-18 at Rubik Field in Manitowoc. Sturgeon Bay led 2-0 after the opening quarter as Anthony Moore sacked quarterback Cory Bahrs in the endzone for a safety. The Clippers led 11-7 at halftime as Ethan Knipfer fired a 56-yard touchdown pass to Connor Gajda and Brady Wodack kicked a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter. However, Roncalli would outscore Sturgeon Bay in the second half, 20-7. Knipfer and Gajda would hook up for a second TD (28 yards) in the fourth quarter. Sturgeon Bay will host Chilton Friday night while Roncalli will take on Southern Door at Manitowoc.
