Gibraltar’s Abbey Fitzgerald won the WIAA Division 3 State Championship in the triple jump with a new state record jump of 39-04.25. Jessica Brueggeman of Royal (previous record holder 38-9.75) placed second with a jump of 38-07.75.
Fitzgerald finished in second place in the long jump event that saw a dramatic finish. Lydia Kettner of Immanuel Lutheran (Eau Claire) took the lead with a state record leap of 18-9, but Fitzgerald answered with a 19-00.50 jump that was a new record until Jessica Brueggeman of Royall went 19-08 for the state title and state record.
Bobbi Blahnik of Algoma placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 39-8, finishing behind Emily Fink of Three Lakes (42-6). Blahnik placed 6th in the discus with a throw of 110-0.
Laci Lautenbach of Sevastopol finished 3rd in high jump by clearing 5’2. Izzy Bender of Fennimore (5-5) and Emma Gruen of Royall (5-2) placed first and second in the event.
Olivia Stenzel of Sevastopol finished 3rd in the 800 with a time of 2:19.13. Kayci Martensen of Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg (2:16.59) and Brynlee Nelson of Fennimore (2:18.70) placed first and second.
