Thursday Night House Fire in Brussels

There was a substantial house fire in Brussels Thursday evening. At about 8:00 pm at 9705 School Road, just across the street from Rouer’s Bar & Restaurant, the homeowner had just gotten home and entered the rear entrance when he was met with heavy black smoke so he called 9-1-1. BUG Fire Chief Curt Vandertie reports that when his department arrived smoke and flames were coming from the front side of the home’s 1st and 2nd stories. There were 2 cats and 1 dog inside the home, but they were safely removed. The response included the entire BUG Fire Department with assistance from the departments of Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, and Luxemburg. All Door County EMS were on scene for standby and rehab for the firefighters. The Casco Fire Department also provided standby coverage. The response took almost 4 hours and they used 1,400 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze. The Door County Sheriff’s Investigative Division is assisting with the investigation, which Fire Chief Vandertie says is ongoing…..

Fire Chief Vandertie says the house is likely a total loss. The structure is still standing, but a good portion had sustained flame, smoke, and water damage on the 1st and 2nd stories. There were no injuries. The investigation will soon be handed off to the insurance company who has been notified.
