An emergency call was made for a structure fire in the Town of Union Tuesday night. It was at about 7:15 when the call came in for a “barn fire” on Sandhill Road, just south of Highway 57, but the structure turned out being a 32×40-foot storage shed with a lean-to addition fully engulfed in flames. Auto-aid was called up from the fire departments of Southern Door, Nasewaupee, and Sturgeon Bay. Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Chief Curt Vandertie explains what they found upon arrival……………
Early in the response, mutual aid was called upon from the fire departments of Luxemburg and Casco. The initial blaze was knocked down rather quickly and the aid from Luxemburg was called off, but the Casco department stayed to provide standby coverage at the Brussels fire station. Fire Chief Vandertie reports that they set up 2 fill sites and used 11,000 gallons of water with some foam to extinguish the fire. He explains here what was in the building and the owner’s actions before the fire…………
There were no injuries in the response, and all units were able to clear the scene in just under 2 ½ hours.
