Sunday Brush Fire in Town of Union

There was a brush fire in a wooded area in the Town of Union Sunday afternoon. The call came in for an area of dry grass burning in the woods near 1204 Pit Road, shortly after 12:00 noon. The Door County Sheriff’s Department were first on the scene confirming the active fire and assessing the situation. BUG Department Fire Chief Curt Vandertie reports his crew arrived and quickly dragged their hoses through the woods to extinguish the burning area he estimated to be about 150 x 200 feet in size. They had 7 units respond with 18 firefighters using just under 1,000 gallons of water. Despite the scattered rain showers we’ve had recently, Fire Chief Vandertie says it’s still very dry out there…..

The entire response took just under 40 minutes. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
