Sturgeon Bay Fire Inspector Position Approved

In an effort to meet the challenge of re-inspections and followup inspections, the Sturgeon Bay City Council approved the request of the fire department to create a part-time fire inspector/fire prevention position. Earlier this year, the department was audited by Wisconsin Safety and Professional Services and one area listed for attention had to do with followup inspections. Its anticipated that the department will be completing 2,500 inspections in 2019, putting pressure on personnel and requiring extended overtime. The person hired will work 24 hours per week with a base wage of $25 an hour. With salary, medicare and retirement, the annual cost totals just under 39 thousand dollars. Funds to cover the inspector/fire prevention position are in the department’s budget.
