Northern Door Home Damaged in Thursday Morning Fire

A home was significantly damaged in a structure fire in the Ellison Bay area Thursday morning. The Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department was sent to a home at North Berry Lane, near Blackberry Road, north of Ellison Bay, at 8:43AM. The first units on the scene indicated that flames could be seen. The “MABUS” system was activated and northern Door County fire departments responded with men and material. We’re told that about two-thirds of the home was saved, but the other third sustained fire, smoke and water damage. A fill site was set up at the Northport ferry dock. Water and foam was used to put out the blaze. Initial indications are that embers from the chimney ignited shingles on the roof. No damage estimate is available. There were no injuries. Most fire crews left the scene shortly before 11:30 Thursday morning.
