New Staff Structure at Crossroads at Big Creek

The Crossroads at Big Creek Learning Center and Nature Preserve in Sturgeon Bay has made some recent changes to their staff structure. Coggin Heeringa has been the Crossroads’ Director since 2001, and until 2017 she was the only full-time staff member. Under her leadership the organization grew from 60 acres on one preserve to just under 200 acres covering three preserves – Big Creek, the Cove, and Ida Bay. She has now accepted a newly created position as “Program Director and Naturalist”. Laurel Hauser, after being the Assistant Director since April of 2019, has now taken the role of Interim Executive Director. Previously, Hauser has had many years experience with the Door County Land Trust in addition to volunteer involvement with many Door County nonprofits. Heeringa and Hauser have been working closely together for the past year. Hauser has commented, “I’m grateful to Coggin for her vision and dedication and for all she and previous board members have accomplished.” Crossroads invites the community to visit and spend time outdoors. The Collins Learning Center is temporarily closed during the current health crisis, but the preserves remain open for the public to enjoy.
