New Air Packs Bring Uniformity & Cost Savings to SBFD

Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief Tim Dietman is very happy the city council approved his request for a large expenditure to purchase 40 replacement air packs for department members. Not only will the investment of $191,596 save the city about $90,000 in replacement costs between now and 2022, but it will provide uniformity in the self contained breathing apparatus used. Dietman explains why having different “air packs” can be a problem…

Dietman says firefighters should have their concentration focused on the job at hand and not the differences in the SCBA units…

Dietman noted that the new “air packs,” which will be in use available in 2016, won’t be paid for until next year.
