Fire on Chambers Island Destroys Seasonal Home

A seasonal dwelling on Chambers Island was gutted in a fire Saturday afternoon. The home is considered a total loss. The fire call came in shortly after 2:30PM and the Gibraltar Fire Department and several other departments fought the blaze which engulfed the home. They brought the fire under control in about a half an hour. For a time there was concern about a child in the structure, but no injuries were reported. Participating in the firefighting operation were units from the Baileys Harbor, Brussels-Union-Gardner, Egg Harbor, Ephraim, Jacksonport, Sister Bay/Liberty Grove, Jacksonport, Sister Bay, and Southern Door Fire Departments, along with Door County Emergency Services, the Department of Natural Resources and the US Coast Guard. A cause for the fire and a damage estimate have not been released. The fire on Chambers Island remains under investigation.
