Sturgeon Bay Fire Fighters, with assistance from several other departments, fought an apartment fire Saturday morning. The call came in at 4:25 AM, according to Fire Chief Tim Dietman. Several apartments in the 16 unit structure at 800 South Oxford Avenue were extensively damaged. One fire fighter fell through the roof and two were inside when the ceiling collapsed, but there were no serious injuries according to the chief. The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department had help from Southern Door, Brussels-Union-Gardner, Egg Harbor, and the Jacksonport Fire Departments which provided equipment and manpower.
The cause of the fire is not known and will be investigated. The residents of the building were all safely evacuated and the American Red Cross is assisted with a shelter set up at Sturgeon Bay City Hall.
