Highway 57 was closed off Sunday afternoon as firefighters responded to a fire call at Mr. G’s Supper Club in the Town of Jacksonport. The call came in shortly after 12 noon for smoke and flames visible on the upstairs home above the supper club. Jacksonport Fire Chief Nathan LeClair reports it was a passerby who called it in…
Being a structure fire, a MABAS call went out for mutual aid from the fire departments of Baileys Harbor, Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor, Ephraim, Gibraltar, Sister Bay Liberty Grove, Southern Door, Casco, and Algoma. Using a fill station site at nearby Logan Creek, 2 engines and 1 ladder truck were able to extinguish the fire using approximately 5,000 gallons of water and some foam. The fire appeared to have begun in the supper club kitchen which, along with the home upstairs, sustained the most damage. The nearby ballroom had smoke damage but did not burn at all.
During the entire response Highway 57 was closed off from Loritz Road to Jorns Road while a detour was set up. There were no injuries reported in the response. The highway was re-opened by 5:40PM and all response vehicles cleared the scene by 6:15. The cause of the fire has not been determined as that investigation is ongoing.
