Through a virtual award ceremony on Wednesday, the Village of Egg Harbor received the Governor’s Tourism Stewardship Award. This was one of five tourism awards given out annually. This Stewardship Award is presented to a business or community that uses and promotes sustainable practices. The village, recognized as a Green Tier Legacy Community, created a task force to bring more sustainable practices to the community with an environmental health mission. They began their free bike-share system, a public seed library, solar energy in the village, new recycling containers, and electric car charging stations. Egg Harbor Village Administrator Ryan Heise accepted the award for the village. There were 41 nominees for these 5 different tourism awards. Another award, the “Arts, Culture, and Heritage” Award went to the Clearing Folk School in Ellison Bay, while the “Rising Star” Award went to Cameryn Kwaterski, originally from Door County and now works as the Executive Director for “Visit Rome, WI Inc.”.
