A developer is now interested in building a store in downtown Brussels on a vacant lot next to the Brussels General Store gas station on County Road “DK”. This proposed building would then be leased out to become a “Dollar General”. The preliminary application for a zoning permit was dated March 5th. Brussels Town Clerk and Zoning Administrator Joann Neinas tells us about the application process in the Town of Brussels……
Neinas says before the application can be addressed the applicant must first acquire a permit for the septic system from the Door County Sanitarian’s Office as well as another for the store’s driveway from the Door County Highway Department. Other issues which need to be addressed include the lighting, parking spaces, landscaping plans, an impervious surface, and signage. If these issues are taken care of before the next town meeting, Neinas says the issue may appear on that meeting’s agenda, and there will be limited time allowed at that meeting for public comments. That next Brussels town board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday April 20th.
