The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department sent two trucks and four firefighters to the Greystone Castle at 8 North Madison Avenue Tuesday after an exterior fire was reported. When the fire crew arrived shortly after 2PM, they found that a bucket of water had been used to douse the fire that began near a window sill in the rear of the building. However, there was still a slight haze of smoke in the dining room and basement areas. The inner wall was opened up and firefighters found several hot spots that were attended to with a small extinguisher. The damage was contained to the wall area. It’s believed that something like a cigarette had been left on the window sill prior to the fire. The firemen returned to the station at 3:02PM.
