Cana Island Phase 4 Nearing Completion

Back in 2009, the Cana Island Light Station Historic Structure Report was published, and this led to a 4 phase restoration project totaling more than $5 million. The fourth and final phase of this project is now nearing completion, and Sam Perlman of the Door County Maritime Museum says it should be completed within the next week or two……..

Over the years, the project has restored the interior of the lightkeeper’s quarters with electrical restoration, HVAC, flooring, doors, windows, and more. The light tower interior saw restoration of the stairwell, walls, floors, and windows, along with upgrades in the lantern room. Finally, new landscaping finished up the areas around the keeper’s quarters and the lighthouse. Perlman says after the restoration is done, the benefits of this work will last for generations……..

Immel Construction should be finishing up their project work this week, so completion of the lighthouse tower and keeper’s quarters will bring a full re-opening of Cana Island Monday August 15th.
