Brussels Home Damaged in Monday Afternoon Fire

A home in the Town of Brussels was damaged in a fire Monday afternoon. Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Chief Curt Vandertie says the page came in shortly after 4PM that there was a fire in the basement at the John Ulrich home at 9797 Cemetery Road…


Chief Vandertie says crews checked the home’s first and second floors and determined that the fire was contained to the basement where about 200 gallons of water had been used. However, there was smoke damage throughout the home. No damage estimate is available and the cause is under investigation, although Vandertie noted that a contractor had been working on the heating unit in the basement prior to the fire’s discovery. Chief Vandertie says BUG firefighters were aided by units from the Southern Door, Luxemburg and Sturgeon Bay fire departments. In addition, Casco firefighters stood by at the Brussels station. At about 5PM, they responded to the report of a barn fire near the first fire call. After learning that a brush pile was being burned near the barn, they returned to the Brussels station.
