A fire Wednesday evening destroyed a large barn and all of its contents at Schartner’s Farm Market near Carlsville. The Egg Harbor Fire Department was sent to the farm at 6476 Highway 42 at 6:20PM. The first units on the scene found the barn fully engulfed in flames and other structures nearby were imperiled. Mutual aid was called in and personnel from eight departments joined the Egg Harbor firemen, bringing with them more than a dozen units to aid in the firefighting operation. Also on the scene were medical personnel from Door County Emergency Services, the Door County Sheriff’s Department, and others. Highway 42 at County G was closed off for a period of time. The barn, which had been used for storage for the Farm Market, is considered a total loss and a nearby structure sustained heat damage. Fire crews were also involved in the cleanup of a small chemical spill. There were no injuries reported at the blaze. No damage estimate is available and no word as to what may have caused the fire.
