Barn Fire In Fish Creek Saturday Morning

A barn at 3840 County EE in Fish Creek sustained minimal damage in a fire Saturday morning. The Gibraltar Fire Department was paged out at 6:42am. Assistant Fire Chief Jayson Merkel says personnel from the farm attempted to extinguish the blaze and successfully removed six head of livestock from the structure prior to the first firefighters arrival. Fire crews quickly put out the remaining fire and checked for hot spots. Merkel says the fire was confined to a small portion of the building with minimal damage. He says it appears the cause was a livestock water heater. No injuries were reported.

Assistance was provided by the Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Ephraim, Jacksonport and Sister Bay/Liberty Grove fire departments by way of the newly implemented Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. Assistant Chief Merkel had praise for the farm personnel whose actions contained what could have been a significant fire and insured that the animals inside were evacuated.
