B.U.G. Fire Department Responds to Multiple Ditch Fires Saturday

There were 2 fire calls for 2 separate ditch fires in the Town of Brussels Saturday afternoon. The first call came in just before 2 PM as a small brush fire along the South Stevenson Pier Road. The Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department sent 2 brush trucks and an engine to the scene where they found approximately 20 to 30 feet of the ditch on fire. That fire was quickly extinguished within 10 minutes of being paged. At that time, a 2nd ditch fire was reported, also on South Stevenson Pier Road. The department moved up the road to find the 2nd fire was approximately 200 yards of the ditch burning and spreading into a nearby field. That fire was soon also contained within 15 minutes. The B.U.G. Fire Department would like to remind everyone to use extreme caution with any burning during these extremely dry conditions, that includes being very cautious when discarding cigarette butts and any burning scenarios as there is plenty of dry dead grass everywhere.
