Destination Door County has announced the 4th cycle of Community Investment Fund grants, awarding a total of over $367,000 to six local projects. The grants range from $15,000 to $150,000, and this cycle they were awarded to 4 non-profits and two local units of government. This cycle also was the largest total distribution of funds since the program began one year ago.
The projects receiving grants in this cycle include the Friends of Peninsula State Park receiving $150,000 to help create 8 to 10 miles of mountain bike trails of varying skill levels. The City of Sturgeon Bay is receiving $100,000 to build a pedestrian/bicycle trail connecting the Ahnapee State Trail with Highway 42/57 under the Bay View Bridge. The County of Door is being awarded over $56,000 to install illuminated beach water quality signs at five Door County beaches. The Sturgeon Bay Historical Society Foundation is receiving $30,000 to build a walkway connecting the public restroom and water filling station at the Door County Granary to the west waterfront promenade. The Door County Bookmobile Project will receive $25,000 for additional vehicle restoration and community programming. Finally, the Greater Escarpment Organization of Door County was awarded $15,000 to support its interpretive park educating residents and visitors about the Niagara Escarpment.
Thus far, the Community Investment Fund program has awarded a total of over $1.2 million in grants to local non-profits and municipalities.
