Algoma is returning to State for the second time in the last three years after a 51-35 win over Oconto at Waupaca on Saturday Night. The Wolves led 18-4 after the first quarter and took a 32-14 lead to the halftime locker room. But the Blue Devils closed the deficit to 10 after a Carli Meyer three-pointer late in third quarter only to see the Algoma’s Meg Ryan and Taylor Schmidt push the lead back 38-24 heading to the fourth. Schmidt and Kennedy Blahnik scored 15 points each for the Wolves and Laken James led Oconto with 15 points. It’s the 7th trip to the State Tournament for Algoma. The 2013 Girls State Tournament will be played at the Resch Center in Green Bay. The Wolves will play Cuba City at 6:35pm on Thursday Night on 93.9FM /wdor.com
