Wolves Beat Lady Knights, Kewaunee Survives In Overtime

The Algoma and Kewaunee girls basketball teams won WIAA Sectional Semi-final games on Thursday Night and both are just one win away from a State Tournament berth.

Division 4

The Wolves beat Lourdes Academy 58-35 at Seymour.  Trailing by four points in the first quarter, Algoma held the Lady Knights without a field goal in the second quarter and went on a 12-0 run to open a 17-9 lead.  But it was the final 8.5 seconds of the first half that did in Lourdes.  Taylor Schmidt found Kennedy Blahnik for a 3 point play and then a steal by Baleigh Delorit and a banked in 25-footer by Anna Dier at the first half buzzer propelled the Wolves to a 29-14 halftime lead.  Blahnik lead Algoma (23-2) with 16 points while Dier added 14 and Schmidt 11.  The Wolves will play Oconto at Waupaca at 7:00 on Saturday on WDOR.

Division 3

Kewaunee was down 12-1 to start the game and 24-14 at the half before rallying past Wrightstown 39-36 in overtime at West De Pere.  The Storm (24-1) will have a Sectional Final rematch with Xavier (24-1) as the Hawks beat Fox Valley Lutheran 29-28.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 at Ashwaubenon.
