The two lower seeds in the Door County League Playoffs sprung road upsets on Sunday. West Jacksonport won at Institute and Kolberg beat regular season champ Sister Bay on the road. Here are the details from Sunday’s games:
West Jacksonport beat Institute, 5-0. The Ports scored the only run that they would end up needing in the first inning on an RBI single by Cody Leist. Leist would drive in two more runs in the sixth. Leist finished with two hits and drove in three runs and Mike Stoneman and Woody Schartner each added two hits. Schartner turned in a solid pitching performance as he tossed a three hit shutout for the win. Kyle Volkmann pitched eight innings and took the loss.
Kolberg beat Sister Bay, 11-2. Jeff Sperber hit a two run homer for the Braves. He finished with three hits and drove in four runs. Eric Lardinois, David Van Dreese, Chris Wery and Travis LeRoy (3 RBI) all added two hits. Austin Rohe pitched the first five innings for the win. Wil Henriksen took the loss for Sister Bay. Matt Hecht scored both of Sister Bay’s runs.
