Sister Bay remains perfect in Door County League baseball as they beat Maplewood Sunday, 17-5. Sister Bay combined 14 hits with seven walks and five Maplewood errors to improve to 4-0. Tom Sawyer and Stewart Larsen both had three hits in the win and Adam Biwer and John Woerfel both hit solo homers. Wil Henrikson (3-0) pitched the first eight innings for the win. John Price hit a solo homer for Maplewood. That came in the sixth and not only accounted for the Mets first run but it was their first hit. Kyle Ploor pitched the first five innings and took the loss. Ploor and Maplewood are both 1-3 on the season.
Egg Harbor slipped by Instituite, 9-8. After a Riley Spetz walk, Matt Ash’s single eluded an outfielder and rolled all the way to the fence. That allowed Spetz to come around and score the winning run. Ash had two hits to lead Egg Harbor (3-1). Spetz (3-0) went the distance for the win. Institute rallied from an 8-2 deficit to tie the game at eight after eight innings. Matt Petersilka, Lance Jennerjohn and Kyle Volkman all had two hits and Danny Allen homered for the Cubs (2-2). Josh Paul (1-1) took the loss.
Kolberg beat West Jacksonport, 10-8. The Braves scored six times in the first and never trailed. Jeff Sperber had four hits including a two-run homer and Travis LeRoy added three hits and a solo homer for Kolberg (2-2). 16-year old Joseph Omilinsky (1-0) made his first DCL start and pitched into the ninth. Dave Neinas ended a West Jacksonport threat in the ninth for his first save of the season. Woody Schartner had two hits including a two-run homer for West Jacksonport, who batted around in the ninth and got the tying run to the plate. Alec Schartner (0-1) took the loss as West Jacksonport falls to 2-2.
Washington Island beat Baileys Harbor, 11-5. Down 5-4, the Islanders (2-2) scored six times in the fifth to take a 10-5 lead and cruised the rest of the way. Aaron Delorit had three hits including a two-run homer and Troy Jorgenson, Caleb Cornell and Dave Heath all had two hits for Washington Island. Jorgenson hit a solo homer in the seventh for the Island’s final run. Mike Anderson (2-1) pitched the first six innings for the win. Jorgenson went the final three for the save, his second of the season. Joe Christianson, Nick Kita, Paul Nelson and Austin Rohe all had two hits for Baileys Harbor (0-4). Brett Anschutz (0-2) took the loss.
