The Gibraltar boys basketball team will play at the WIAA State Tournament in Madison after they held on to beat Columbus Catholic, 55-49, on Saturday in Pulaski. The Vikings (19-10) closed the half on a 16-4 run and had a 5 point lead when Jake Schar hit a buzzer beating three pointer for a 31-26 advantage. Leading 44-41 with less than 8:00 minutes to play, a Schar three point play sparked a 7-1 surge for a 51-42 lead at the 3:00 minute mark. The Dons (24-5) made it 52-49 with less than a minute to play after Gibraltar went 6 of 13 from the free throw line, but blocks from Sam Lindenberg and Will Friedenfels on the defensive end helped secure the win. Schar finished with a game high 14 points while Trevor Ash and Will Friedenfels added 13 points each to lead Gibraltar. The Vikings will play Randolph in the Division 5 semi-finals Friday Morning at 9:05 on 93.9FM.
