Newman Catholic beat Gibraltar, 66-54, in a WIAA Division 5 sectional final at Seymour on Saturday. The Vikings (13-15) led 8-5 early but the Fighting Cardinals took the lead for good with an 11-0 run and extended the lead to as much as 15 in the first half. But Gibraltar answered with at 8-0 run as Jake Schar hit a couple of three pointers and it was 31-22 at the half. The Vikings closed to within 39-35 in the second half but could get no closer as Mason Prey (22 points) and Isaac Seidel (21 points) combined to go 12-12 from the free throw line in the final minutes. Braden Sitte led Gibraltar with 17 points while Will Friedenfels added 11 and Carl Burgess 10 points.
