Sturgeon Bay beat Northern Door 2-1 in an American Legion baseball game at the Sevastopol Town Park in Institute on Thursday. Riley Cordier pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts for the win. Cordier drove in Lucas Stephenson with an RBI ground out in the top of the 3rd inning but the Chiefs answered with an RBI single from Jack Brennan that scored Nick Kita. But Austin Rohe doubled to open the 4th inning and scored the eventual deciding run on a Keith Lehmann RBI ground out. Lehmann and David Van Dreese had 2 hits to lead Sturgeon Bay. Drew Tanck pitched well but took the loss for Northern Door.
The Chiefs beat Wrightstown 10-1 in the early game in Institute. Matt Hecht pitched a complete game and retired the last nine batters he faced and added 4 hits to lead Northern Door. Nick Kita had 2 hits and 3 RBI’s while Quin Schram and Bubba Laughlin had 2 hits each while David Omilinsky scored 3 runs in the win. The Chiefs scored runs in the first 5 innings. Alan Barta had 3 hits to lead the Rockets.
