Three DCL Teams Off To 2-0 Starts

Sister Bay, Washington Island and Institute have all opened the 2018 Door County League Season with two wins while Egg Harbor and West Jacksonport are both 1-1 after a pitchers duel Sunday.  Here’s the week two recap:

On AM 910 WDOR and wdor.com, Egg Harbor beat West Jacoksonport, 1-0.  Al Byrne scored the game’s lone run in the third.  He walked with one out, stole second advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on an error.  Jeffrey Alberts went the first seven innings for the win with Byrne picking up the save.  West Jacksonport’s Drew Tanck had two hits and David Van Dreese tripled.

Washington Island beat Maplewood, 4-1.  The Islanders scored twice in the fifth and eighth innings.  Ben Geiger had two hits to lead Washington Island.  Matt Foss picked up the win.  Cully Kissinger had two hits for Maplewood.  Nick Brauer took the loss.

Institute beat Baileys Harbor, 12-4.  Matt Petersilka, John Baudhuin and Josh Paul all had two hits as Institute scored in each of the first four innings.  Paul was the winning pitcher.  Derek Niedzwiecki and Brett Kinnard each had two hits for Baileys Harbor.

Sister Bay beat Kolberg, 16-2.  Stuart Larsen homered twice and Tom Sawyer and Tucker Emerson each went deep as well.  Larsen had three hits while Sawyer, Sam Forkert and Matt Hecht each had two.  Forkert pitched the first seven innings for the win.  Eric Lardinois had a pair of doubles to lead Kolberg.  Ernie Erickson took the loss.
