Sturgeon Bay Wins First Conference Game Since 2012

The Sturgeon Bay football team closed the 2016 regular season by beating Oconto, 18-13 at Memorial Field Friday night.  The Clippers (1-5 Packerland / 3-6 overall) added to their homecoming celebration by picking up their first conference win since beating Mishicot in the regular season finale in 2012.  Down 7-6, Sturgeon Bay scored 12 straight points before allowing a late TD to the Blue Devils (3-3 / 4-5).  Brady Wodack kicked a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter to put the Clippers up 9-7.  Then Ethan Knipfer added a 1-yard touchdown run and Wodack booted a 43-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to push the lead to 18-7.  Connor Gajda hauled in an 11-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, which gave Sturgeon Bay a 6-0 lead at the time.  Oconto’s Carson Moe had a 4-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and Bryce O’Connor caught a 5-yard TD pass from Zach Sherman, who started at quarterback for an injured Jake Krueger.
