Sturgeon Bay And Algoma Both On The Road

The Sturgeon Bay football team will take on a familiar foe when the WIAA Division 4 football playoffs begin Friday.  Sturgeon Bay, who is a 6 seed, will play at 3 seed Wrightstown at 7 PM Friday night. Sturgeon Bay and Wrightstown are both in the Olympian-Packerland Large Conference.  The Tigers went 7-1 this season and tied with Chilton and Brillion for the conference title.  The Clippers finished 5-3. Since the inception of the Olympian-Packerland Large Conference, Sturgeon Bay has a record of 0-5 against Wrightstown.  The two teams did not play in the regular season in 2012.  Sturgeon Bay is making its second straight appearance in the WIAA postseason.  The Clippers lost to Wrightstown, 35-0 in the second round of last year’s playoffs.  The Tigers went on to win the 2011 Division 4 state championship.

The Algoma football team will head to Fond du Lac Friday for a Division 6 playoff game with Saint Mary’s Springs.  The Wolves received an 8 seed in the postseason by going 3-3 in the Olympian-Packerland Small Conference (Algoma is 3-5 overall).  It is the first time in school history that Algoma has been in the WIAA playoffs in back-to-back seasons.  The top seeded Ledgers are the defending Division 6 state champions. Saint Mary’s Springs is the top ranked team in the state in the latest Division 6 coaches poll.  They won the Flyway Conference by going 7-0 and they were 8-0 overall.  Friday’s game featuring Algoma at Saint Mary’s Springs begins at 7 PM.
