Kleiman To Richard For State Title

The Kewaunee Storm girls basketball team started the day as defending champions.  They finished the day as two time defending champions after a thrilling 60-58 win over East Troy in the WIAA Division 3 State Title game Saturday at the Resch Center in Green Bay.  The Trojans opened the game with a 17-4 run and still lead 32-23 at the half.  But the Storm roared back in the 3rd quarter thanks to seven straight points by Kelsey Stangel and a Kiley Heim three point basket that cut the East Troy lead to 44-40 after three quarters.  Kewaunee finally tied the game on a Stangel three pointer with 6:55 to play and took their first lead with 5:27 to play after another Stangel basket.  East Troy would tie the game with :39 seconds to play when Rachel Atchison connected on a three pointer and the Storm held for the last shot.  As Jill Kleiman drove to the hoop she passed to a wide open Alex Richard who hit the game winner with less than a second to play.  Kelsey Stangel finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals while Alex Richard added 16 points and Jill Kleiman 11 points.  The Trojans, who made 9 of 13 shots in the second half and shot 56% for the game, were led by Rachel Atchison with 21 points, Breanna Gaspervich with 13 points and Andrea Olsen and Alicia Oleson added 10 points.
