Sister Bay used an eighth inning rally at Washington Island to stay perfect in the Door County League. Egg Harbor also used an eighth inning rally to get past Kolberg. Maplewood kept Baileys Harbor winless and Institute shutout West Jacksonport Friday night. Here’s this week’s DCL recaps:
Sister Bay beat Washington Island, 6-3. Sister Bay scored four times in the top of the eighth to rally from a 3-2 deficit. John Woerfel doubled in two runs in the eighth while Tom Sawyer and Dusty Johnson each drove in a run. Sawyer had three hits. Sam Forkert, James Larsen, Matt Hecht and Woerfel all had two hits. Winning pitcher Ryan Demmin (5-0) went the distance striking out 17. Caleb Cornell had three hits to lead Washington Island, who turned a triple play in the second inning. Matt Foss (0-2) pitched the first seven and took the loss.
Egg Harbor beat Kolberg, 2-1. Egg Harbor scored twice in the bottom of the eighth. An RBI single by Nick Kita tied the game while the eventual winning run scored on a ground ball by Jake Junion. Kita had two of Egg Harbor’s three hits. Dave Jilot (2-1) went the distance and had 13 strikeouts. Jeff Sperber had three hits and David Van Dreese added two for Kolberg. Losing pitcher Austin Rohe (1-2) gave up two runs in relief of Riley Cordier.
Maplewood beat Baileys Harbor, 6-1. Al Karas and John Price each had two hits while winning pitcher Kyle Ploor (1-0) drove in two runs. Amadee Savard (0-2) pitched the first seven and took the loss. Savard, Kyle Keehan and Joey Feurst all had two hits for Baileys Harbor.
Institute beat West Jacksonport, 3-0. Ryan Brungraber doubled in Institute’s first run in the second and the Cubs would add two in the fourth. Cody Giesseman had three hits and Kirk Schleicher had two for Institute. Kyle Volkmann (3-3) picked up the win. Griffin Cole and Cody Leist each had a single and a double for West Jacksonport, who had six total hits. Tanner Biwer (3-1) pitched into the fifth and took the loss.
