Sister Bay is still perfect in the Door County League, after winning a pitchers duel with Egg Harbor Sunday. Washington Island handed Kolberg its first loss of the season while Maplewood beat Institute for its first win. West Jacksonport kept Baileys Harbor winless after three weeks. Here’s Sunday’s DCL roundup:
On 910 AM WDOR and wdor.com, Maplewood beat Institute, 2-0. Calvin Falk (1-0) tossed eight shutout innings and then Kyle Ploor pitched the ninth for the save. Falk had 10 strikeouts. Maplewood scored their two runs in the seventh inning on a fielder’s choice and a hit by Mickey Le. Kyle Volkmann (1-2) took the loss for Institute.
Sister Bay blanked Egg Harbor, 1-0. Sister Bay scored the game’s lone run on consecutive hits by Ryan Demmin, James Larsen and Tucker Emerson in the fourth inning. Larsen was 2-for-3 and Matt Hecht doubled in the win. Winning pitcher Ryan Demmin (3-0) scattered six hits and had 10 strikeouts in the shutout. Corey Giesseman was 2-for-3 for Egg Harbor and Jason Fuller doubled. Riley Spetz (0-1) took the loss.
Washington Island beat Kolberg, 11-5. Leading 6-4, the Islanders scored twice in the seventh and then Craig Gunnlaugsson hit a three-run homer in the ninth. Gunnlaugsson led Washington Island with four hits and Christian Foss added two. Troy Jorgenson (2-1) pitched the first seven innings for the win. David Van Dreese had four hits for Kolberg and Eric Lardinois and Jesse Miller each added two. Austin Rohe (0-1) gave up four runs in three innings and took the loss.
West Jacksonport beat Baileys Harbor, 10-2. Tanner Biwer (2-0) went the first seven for the win. Biwer and Woody Schartner combined to allow just four hits. Griffin Cole had two hits and drove in three runs for the Ports. Schartner (2 RBI) and Cody Leist also had two hits in the victory. Zach Defere tripled and was on base three times. Lucas Stephenson (0-1) worked into the fifth inning and took the loss.
