Sister Bay beat Kolberg Sunday and in the process clinched their first Door County League Baseball regular season championship since 1994. Institute wrapped up a playoff berth with a win over Baileys Harbor. Also in week 13, West Jacksonport clinched a spot in the postseason as they slipped by Egg Harbor. Washington Island knocked off Maplewood. Here are the details:
Sister Bay doubled up Kolberg, 4-2. Tom Sawyer and Stuart Larsen each had two hits for Sister Bay (11-2). Sawyer doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs. Larsen knocked in Sister Bay’s other two runs. Wil Henriksen (5-2) went the distance for the win, which locked up the regular season title for Sister Bay. Austin Rohe (0-2) went the first five for Kolberg (7-6) and took the loss.
Institute beat Baileys Harbor, 5-2. Institute (9-4) scored three runs in the top of the ninth to pick up the win. Matt Petersilka had two hits including a home run for the Cubs. Kyle Volkmann added three hits and Josh Paul chipped in two hits. Volkmann (7-4) went all nine for the win. Jack Collins collected his first DCL hit for Baileys Harbor (1-12), which committed seven errors in the loss. Amadee Savard (0-1) entered in the eighth and took the loss.
West Jacksonport edged Egg Harbor, 7-6. West Jacksonport (8-5) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally for the win. Nick Johnson’s run scoring single tied the game and the Ports took the lead for good on Zach Defere’s single. Johnson (2 RBI), Defere, and Woody Schartner (2 runs) all had two hits for West Jacksonport. Schartner (1-2) picked up the win in relief. Eric DeJardine had three hits for Egg Harbor (6-7) and Riley Spetz, Brian Crook and Robbie Schartner all had two hits. Spetz (0-2) took the loss in relief.
Washington Island beat Maplewood, 10-3. Washington Island (5-8) scored three runs in the first and never trailed. Aaron Delorit and Craig Gunnlaugsson both homered for the Islanders. Caleb Cornell had three hits in the win while Gunnlaugsson, Matt Foss and Troy Jorgenson all had a pair of hits. Jorgenson (4-6) went the first eight for the win. Calvin Falk (4-5) pitched the first six and took the loss.
