Sister Bay clinched the Door County League’s regular season championship with a win over Kolberg Sunday. West Jacksonport took over second place by slipping by Egg Harbor. Washington Island failed to keep pace the playoff race as they lost to Maplewood. Institute beat Baileys Harbor under the lights Friday. Here’s this week’s recap:
Sister Bay beat Kolberg, 3-2. Stuart Larsen’s RBI single in the seventh snapped a 2-2 tie. Larsen finished with two hits while Tom Sawyer doubled. Ryan Demmin (10-0) gave up one earned run on three hits. He had 16 strikeouts and retired the final eleven hitters he faced. Riley Cordier (2-3) took the loss for Kolberg.
West Jacksonport beat Egg Harbor, 3-2. West Jacksonport scored twice in the seventh to erase a one run deficit. Eric Bley had two hits to lead the Ports. Woody Schartner (2-0) went the distance for the win. Jake Junion had two hits including a two-run homer for both of Egg Harbor’s runs. Dave Jilot (4-3) pitched seven innings and took the loss.
Maplewood beat Washington Island, 6-5. The Mets scored twice in the bottom of the ninth with Tyler Wagner being hit by pitch with the bases loaded to plated the game winner. Al Karas had three hits for Maplewood, while John Price (3 RBI) and Calvin Falk each added two. Kyle Ploor (3-1) picked up the win in relief. Caleb Cornell doubled and hit a two-run homer for Washington Island. Mark Woerfel (0-1) took the loss in relief.
Friday night on 93.9 FM WDOR and wdor.com, Institute beat Baileys, 8-0. Winning pitcher Josh Paul (1-0) tossed a two-hit shutout for the win. He retired the final 13 hitters he faced. Institute scored their first run in the fourth and then added two in the fifth and four in the sixth. All nine starters for the Cubs reached base at least once and seven different players had a hit. Amadee Savard (0-7) went the first eight innings and took the loss for Baileys Harbor (0-12), who committed seven errors.
