Sister Bay took sole possession of first place in the Door County League by beating West Jacksonport Sunday. Maplewood won the battle of southern Door by beating Kolberg and Egg Harbor swept a double header from Baileys Harbor. Friday night Washington Island beat Institute. Here are the details:
Sister Bay scored in the seventh as they beat West Jacksonport, 1-0. A ground ball by Casey Weddig scored the game’s lone run. Sam Forkert (8-1) tossed seven shutout innings for the win and Bubba Laughlin pitched the final two for his second save. Riley Cordier (5-1) allowed four hits as he took the loss.
Maplewood beat Kolberg, 19-3. The Mets scored once in the second, added four runs in the third and tacked on nine runs in the ninth. Kordell Draves had three hits, including a three-run homer. He drove in six runs. Tyler Wagner and Collin Schubert added three hits. Nick Brauer (1-0) pitched the first six innings for the win. Derik LeCaptain and Rob Ray both had two hits in the loss. One of Ray’s hits was a solo homer. Ernie Erickson (1-4) pitched five innings and took the loss.
Egg Harbor took game one with Baileys Harbor, 16-4. Cody Giesseman and Matt Ash each had three hits in the win. Dave Jilot (4-3) pitched the first five innings for the victory. Amadee Savard (2-2) took the loss.
Egg Harbor won game two as they beat Baileys Harbor, 8-2. Nick Kita and Cody Giesseman each had two hits. Kita (2-2) picked up the win. After collecting five hits in the first game, Baileys Harbor had six in game number two. Austin Rohe (0-1) took the loss.
Friday night it was Washington Island over Institute, 9-6. Alex Johnson had three hits to lead the Islanders while Caleb Cornell, Ben Geiger, Ben Johnson and Luke Geiger all added two. Matt Foss (7-2) pitched the first seven for the win. John Heimbecher and Kyle Volkmann had three hits in the loss. Losing pitcher Josh Paul (1-5) went all nine.
