Sawyer & Curtin Continue Strong Seasons

Gibraltar’s Tom Sawyer helped Ripon to 37-21 win over Grinnell College in Ripon on Saturday while Sturgeon Bay’s Matt Curtin and Michigan Tech rallied to beat Northwood 28-21 in Houghton, Michigan.

Sawyer rushed for 171 yards in the first half and finished with 191 yards and touchdown plus completed 6-of-12 passed for 60 yards as the Red Hawks (2-4) won their second straight game.  Ripon will play at Beloit College on Saturday.

Curtin caught six passed for 98 yards and a touchdown as the Huskies rallied from a 21-7 halftime defecit for the win that puts them in a three-way tie for first in the GLIAC North Division.  Curtin has eight receiving touchdowns in the last three weeks and nine for the season, tying a school record with four games to play.

Sturgeon Bay’s Jake Bscherer is the starting left tackle at Minnesota Duluth.  The Bulldogs (6-1) rolled to a 44-6 win over Minot State this weekend and have moved to #7 in the latest American Football Coaches Association poll.
