Sevastopol survived a late comeback attempt by Gibraltar and beat the Vikings in a boys Packerland Conference basketball game in Fish Creek on Friday. The Pioneers (2-11, 6-14) had led the entire way, but the Vikings tied the game with :08.6 seconds to play on a Luke Steebs free throw. After 14 straight makes, Steebs missed his second free throw but Gibraltar gathered the offense rebound but were called for a technical foul when they took a timeout with none remaining with :01.8 seconds to play. After missing the first free throw, Robby Pollman calmly swished the second to provide the winning margin for Sevastopol. Pollman finished with 9 three pointers and a game high 35 points while Josh Pfleiger scored 13 and Logan Beyer added 10. Luke Steebs led the Vikings (3-11, 5-15) with 24 points and Sam Lindenberg scored 18 and Dom Krauel added 10. It’s Sevastopol’s first win over Gibraltar since January 31, 2013 and snaps a 15 game losing streak against the Vikings.
