The Green Bay Packers opened their 2012 preseason by losing to the Chargers in San Diego Thursday night, 21-13. Aaron Rodgers struggled, as the Packers starting quarterback threw an interception and lost a fumble in three series. Rodgers completed 2 of 8 passes for 16 yards.
The Packers were down 14-0 before getting on the scoreboard with 32 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Second string quarterback Graham Harrell tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Randall Cobb. Marc Tyler added a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, but the two point conversion failed and the Chargers would tack on a late score for the final of 21-13.
Harrell completed 15 of 27 passes for 135 yards and Cobb led the Packers with four catches for 58 yards.
The Packers will host the Cleveland Browns Thursday night in week two of the preseason. That game begins at 7 PM at Lambeau Field.
Notes:
Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop was injured in the first quarter. Bishop suffered a right leg injury and could not put any weight on that leg as he was helped from the field.
Shannon Eastin made history as she became the first woman to officiate an NFL game. She worked the Packers sideline in the second half and head coach Mike McCarthy said that Eastin communicated well. Her hat was sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
