Meet The Division 4 Girls Basketball State Field

Algoma (24-2) shared the Packerland Conference championship this season with Kewaunee and won the Waupaca sectional.  The Wolves are making their second appearance at state in the last three years and this will be Algoma’s seventh overall appearance. Algoma has won two state titles (1981, 1986) and they have finished second twice, most recently in 2011. Cuba City (25-1) holds the WIAA record for most appearances at state and most championships.  The Cubans are at state for a fourteenth time and have won nine state titles (1977, 1980, 1990, 1991, 1993, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010).  They won the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League championship and won the Baraboo sectional.  Head coach Jeff Pustina (533-113, 26th season) talked about his team…

The Prairie School (23-2) is making their second appearance at state, winning a state championship in their only other trip (2004).  The Hawks shared the Metro Classic Conference title this season with Racine Saint Catherine’s and won the Arrowhead sectional.  The Prairie School’s head coach is Melody Owsley (297-233, 23rd season)…

The Prairie School is led by guard Gabrielle Ortiz.  The 5’7 junior is averaging 21 points per game and leads the Hawks in assists and is second in rebounds.  Some of the schools that Ortiz has received scholarship offers from include; Marquette, Wisconsin, Miami, Boston College and Oklahoma…

The Prairie School roster and stats

Colfax (25-1) is making their third appearance at state and unlike the other three Division 4 semifinalists, they have yet to win a state championship.  In fact, the Vikings have lost in the semifinals in their two previous trips to the state tournament.  Colfax won the Dunn-Saint Croix Conference championship this season and advanced to the Resch Center by winning the Chippewa Falls sectional.
